This national gesture comes after his sudden death on the night of Tuesday November 5, 2024 in Lagos.
In a further tribute, the President has also postponed the Federal Executive Council meeting, originally scheduled for today, with a new date to be announced.
In his statement, President Tinubu expressed profound sympathy to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces, recognizing the late General’s dedication and service to the nation.
Lagbaja was appointed Chief of Army Staff on June 19, 2023, by Tinubu.
According to a statement from the presidency, Lagbaja demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment throughout his service, serving as a platoon commander in the 93 Battalion and the 72 Special Forces Battalion.
Lagbaja, an alumnus of the prestigious U.S. Army War College, is reported to be survived by his wife, Mariya, and their two children.
Meanwhile, Tinubu appointed Olufemi Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff last Wednesday as Lagbaja was confirmed indisposed for weeks.
